Unfortunately our ride-on mower suffered a breakdown about 10 days ago. Part of the steering linkage broke and it became unusable.
In the meantime the grass has continued to put on steady growth. Just as I was thinking of alternative means of keeping the grass down - such as borrowing a cow, or leasing some goats, the Husqvarna turned back up, new parts fitted and ready to go.
This gave Keith and Val the chance to continue gaining confidence and skills on the ride on mower.
For the rest of us it was back to the more mundane, but essential jobs around the site. Now that the blackberry picking season was over it was time to deal with all the usual leggy bramble growth overhanging paths and borders.
Aurelie jumped on the cordless electric hedgecutter and made a good job of cutting back along the path and around the yews. Keith, Jenny and I tackled the brambles overhanging one of the top borders. Now we can mow up to the edge safely without getting snagged.
Jenny also had some time to inspect and tidy our willow tunnel. There was very little tidying required. It seems that visitors have taken the opportunity presented and do a little weaving themselves. Great fun and also helps with maintenance around the arb.
On a more personal note, Jessica finally completed her thesis this week. The culmination of years of work. Of course, she baked a cake and brought it to the group. If her thesis is as good as her cake making then she should pass with flying colours.
