A bit of a damp start to the day and a small turnout meant that it was a day for getting some more of those little jobs ticked off the list.
The last week of warm wet weather has meant that the arboretum was beginning to look like Farmer Brown's field. Keith volunteered to try his hand on the petrol lawnmower.
Progress was slow as expected. Long wet grass is difficult to cut and the deck and discharge chute has a tendency to block. But persistence won the day and much of the turf at the entrance area has been given a nice haircut.
Jenny pointed out that one of our benches has again become unusable due to overhanging bramble growth. The brambles, like everything else, are putting on a tremendous amount of growth. The berries are just beginning to ripen now.
Jenny and Charlie cut back and cleared the area. Meanwhile I tackled one of our information boards. It has been removed and placed to one side whilst the works on the drainage system were being completed.
A bit of digging and a spirit-level ensured a nice straight sign, but removed to the other side of the path, away from the buried drainage channel.
