The University of Leicester maintains the Attenbrough Arboretum as a free-to-the-public open space and a place of education for local schools and organisations.
There is a regular Thursday morning group volunteering session held for members of the public. This has been running for over a year now and has been very successful and is much enjoyed by the regular attendees.
Using this as a model a similar scheme is now being set up for university staff. Staff are eligible to apply for paid volunteering leave to undertake approved volunteer work, for up to two of their equivalent working days, per calendar year.
The Attenborough Arboretum is glad to be able to offer you the chance to have a positive impact on your physical and mental wellbeing, whilst working outdoors and in beautiful surroundings.
If volunteering at the arboretum might be for you should initially email myself, Tom Cross, for full details of a typical volunteering session, including timetable, suitable clothing and what you should bring and the kind of work involved.
If you go to the Group Volunteering Blog on this website you will get an idea of the kind of activities that are involved.
